|CSA week 5|
well, the usage of the vegetables has been on and off. this past week, i made cheese tortellini (from the freezer section) in butter cream sauce with kale, peas, zucchini, and garlic (all from the farm). and we are down to a single head of lettuce in the fridge!
this week's pickup:
- garlic
- zucchini
- yellow squash
- curly kale
- rainbow beets
- spinach
- onions
- sugar snap peas
- cabbage
except that i forgot to pick up the cabbage -which is fine because we never got around to cooking last week's cabbage. we still have some chard in the fridge, which i am actually thinking about tossing out. i guess i am not that big a fan of chard. notice that we didn't get chard or lettuce this week! hurrah! i warned matt that it's only a matter of a week or two before we start wishing we had more lettuce.
there is a baby shower tomorrow! with men, and beer. where there are men, there is beer. we made an attempt at kid-proofing the house, since we'll have a bunch of rugrats running about, too. matt wasn't happy about putting away all of his grown-up toys. but i warned him that if he didn't, they would become kid toys! most of them are probably not safe for little tikes, too. it's good, though, since we needed to do that for ourselves, eventually. the real test of whether the house is kid-proof enough will be when the kids arrive tomorrow.
we realized we didn't have any kid toys. what are a bunch of kids going to do at our boring house?! the solution: we bought a gallon of bubbles solution, and some wands. bubbles -great for all ages... even the adults!
so, our house is also pretty much decluttered, as a result of the kid-proofing. this pleases me immensely. and i promised matt that we would get him a real dvd/cd cabinet. i also surprised him with a remote control mini-helicopter. he's been wanting one of these things for years. i figured it's his last change to be a big kid before the real kid takes over.
